Radio Giant Clear Channel's Syndication Arm Defends Rush ...

NEW YORK - Despite a controversy that has seen advertisers and stations end their association with Rush Limbaugh, Clear Channel Communications' radio syndication arm Premiere Networks remains committed to the conservative talk host, whose show it syndicates to nearly 600 stations around the U.S., according to the Wall Street Journal.

Premiere is "committed to providing its listeners with access to a broad range of opinion and commentary without condoning or agreeing with the opinions, comments or attempts at humor expressed by on-air talent," the company said, according to the paper. "We respect the right of Mr. Limbaugh, as well as the rights of those who disagree with him, to express those opinions."

The Rush Limbaugh Radio Show has lost at least two stations and a slew of advertisers after his attack on Georgetown University student Sandra Fluke, whom he called a "slut" and "prostitute" last week for advocating insurance coverage of contraceptives. Premiere said that Limbaugh had made "an attempt at absurdist humor to illustrate his political point," but "used words that unfortunately distracted from the message he was trying to convey," according to the Journal.

The company, which estimates that the host attracts an audience of up to 20 million per week, added that Limbaugh "did the right thing on Saturday, and again [Monday] morning on his radio show, by expressing regret for his choice of words and offering his sincere and heartfelt apology."

(AP) ? Michigan State standout freshman Branden Dawson is out for the rest of the season after injuring his left knee against Ohio State.

Dawson limped off the court with 10:16 left in the first half of Sunday's 72-70 loss to the 10th-ranked Buckeyes, which left the No. 5 Spartans in a three-way tie for the Big Ten title with Ohio State and Michigan.

Dawson was evaluated briefly on the bench, where he rubbed his left knee while his leg was propped up on a chair. Later, he walked gingerly to the locker room.

After the game, Michigan State said Dawson has a torn ACL and will miss the rest of the season. The Spartans will be the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten tournament, which begins Thursday in Indianapolis.

The 6-foot-6, 220-pound forward ranks third on the team in scoring (8.5) and is second in rebounds (4.6).

Style Sensei: Home Staging 201 De-Cluttering

Written by Meghan Wasinger

Style Sensei: Home Staging 201 De-Cluttering

?

Here are some rules I always try to remember when de-cluttering a house prior to putting it on the market.

?
Rule 1: If it cannot be seen, it cannot be sold.

Ideally, every surface, no matter what should be 80 to 95 % empty. That means all those mixers, coffee makers, blenders, food processors, bowls, banana hangers (really why does anyone ever need one of those?), paper towel holders, newspapers, telephone directories, and even your prize shot glass collection need to go.? Keep only the most universally attractive things out.? Perhaps you have a stainless steel paper towel holder and matching tiered fruit baskets in iron scrollwork. They would?pair nicely with your stainless steel toaster and super-cute red teapot and KitchenAid mixer.? Leave those out, but find a place in a cabinet for essential items (fyi?.4 large Yankee candles with competing scents are not essential items) and then pack up the rest until you reach your new home.
Pack, donate, or sell as many books as you can.? Shelves should be mostly empty with only a few interesting things on them.? Only leave fairly classic books out.? Remember buyers walk through houses and their minds start drifting. Who lives here?? Why are they moving?? What do they do for a living? What college did they go to?? Why do they have so many shoes? They are creating an image of the type of people who live in the house and seeing if it matches the image they have of themselves. Don?t give them any material that will take their minds off of what you are really selling, your house.

Rule 2.? If it is an over-the-counter drug, or prescription, hide it well.

Hide medicine, prescription drugs, and medical equipment.? A treasure trove of anti-heartburn medications next to your anti-anxiety pills hardly gives off images of the Zen-like retreat you hoped to portray in your newly redone bathroom. Besides being unsightly, these drugs can be dangerous to small children and valuable to potential thieves.

Rule 3. If it is valuable for sentimental or financial reasons, pack it up.

Don?t leave expensive jewelry or artwork out or anything that is intrinsically personally valuable.? Also don?t leave out things that are personally valuable to you (e.g. the awesome broad sword you got at ?Renfest? last year, or your Giants bobble-head with the players signature on it)? out for potential buyers to see.? Even if it is not something that might be stolen, it could be damaged.
Pack up your alcohol.? A little wine rack is fine but don?t display thousands of dollars of alcohol. It can be distracting and a potential temptation to thieves.

Rule 4. If it might have a gross-out factor, pack it up.?

By gross I mean anything that has a strong smell or makes people think about personal hygiene, animals or (even worse) disease.? Stinky foods, litter boxes, dog food bowls, athlete?s foot spray, trashcans, toilet bowl cleaners, Q tips, and diapers should all be hidden or eliminated. One time I showed a house where the owners were fermenting cabbage in the kitchen and left a stinky diaper pail in the bathroom. My client practically started dry heaving during her tour.? Despite being a great house in a great location, she and her husband only remembered the strong smells.

Rule 3.? This is not a time to embrace your quirky or controversial side.

Like your choice of literature, any items that may elicit a strong reaction from visitors should be stored.
Consider the reaction you might have to seeing something like the ?leg-lamp? in the movie ?The Christmas story, ? in someone?s living room or the response a politically-active (we are in the D.C. area)? individual may have to your collection of one party?s presidential election posters. You may be so used to living with something that you are not aware that something could evoke an emotional response.? Rely on your real estate agent or stager to tell you if they think something needs to go.?? Remember, don?t take it personally? if they ask you to pack away the your work of art masterpiece nude sketch that you are uber-proud of from college art class or that picture of you and your buddies dressed in camo with hunting rifles.? Again the goal here is to make this house appealing to ALL that enter not to broadcast to the whole world how you live. This is a business transaction, treat it that way.

Rule 5.? Put away your personal and financial information.?

Hide your family photos, bills and bank statements (I cannot tell you how many times, I have shown houses with the American Express or Discover Card statement lying open on the counter.) Don?t leave your computer open to your Facebook page.? Always minimize or hide personal pictures or calendars. Again, this is for your safety.? You don?t know who is going to be in your house and you don?t want to open yourself up to identity theft.? People are always interested in the people who live in a home; you really don?t want your children?s pictures to prove more interesting than your house.?

A note on storing your prized possessions?
One last thing, many of my clients rent storage units.? This is particularly useful if they are going to be moving into a bigger house. There are many options available that may even include boxes or pods which can be delivered directly to your doorstep. Once they are filled, a truck picks them up and brings them to a climate- controlled storage warehouse to be delivered at some future date to your new home.? These services are easy to find and extremely helpful to home sellers.?
Remember, that after you de-clutter, you will be rewarded by getting a higher sales price. Another bonus is, since you are planning on moving anyway, you will get a great jumpstart on the pre-move packing and cleaning process.???

Random House drastically raises the price of e-books for libraries

Random House
Oddly, Random House deciding to triple the price of its e-books for libraries is being considered a compromise. While others, like Penguin, are pulling their electronic tomes from the virtual shelves of our lending institutions, Random House is at least willing to still play ball -- even if it's making its wares prohibitively expensive. Now titles from the company start at $25, with many popular books going for more than $100, though, releases are available on day one and wont have an expiration date. Obviously, the fact that e-books can be pirated and never need to be replaced as their pages tear or bindings wear down is of concern to publishers that are losing out on a continuous stream of revenue. However, many of our libraries are underfunded and will likely balk at the new sky high prices. But, we suppose, a higher one-time cost is easier to swallow than an annual licensing fee.

Baby Girl Found Alone In Field 10 Miles From Family's Home After ...

INDIANAPOLIS (CBS/AP) ? A hospital spokeswoman says a 2-year-old girl found alive in an Indiana field after violent storms is the sole survivor of her immediate family.

Cis Gruebbel is a spokeswoman for Kosair Children?s Hospital in Louisville, Ky. She said Saturday that the girl?s mother, father, 2-month-old sister and 3-year-old brother all died Friday when the storms devastated southern Indiana.

Gruebbel says the toddler is in critical condition.

She would not identify the child and says she could not provide details on the child?s ordeal. She says extended family members are at the hospital with the child.

Melissa Richardson, a spokeswoman for the hospital in Salem, Ind. where the child was first taken, said the child?s family is from New Pekin, Ind., and she was found near her home.

Officials at the hospital where the girl was first taken said Saturday that authorities were still trying to figure out how she ended up in the field alone. Richardson says the child?s family is from New Pekin, Ind., about 10 miles south of where the child was found.

A string of violent storms demolished small towns in Indiana and cut off rural communities in Kentucky as the early season tornado outbreak killed more than 30 people, and the death toll rose as daylight broke on Saturday?s search for survivors.

Massive thunderstorms, predicted by forecasters for days, threw off dozens of tornadoes as they raced Friday from the Gulf Coast to the Great Lakes. Twisters crushed blocks of homes, knocked out cellphones and landlines, ripped power lines from broken poles and tossed cars, school buses and tractor-trailers onto roads made impassable by debris.

Weather that put millions of people at risk killed at least 32 in four states ? Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio ? but both the scale of the devastation and the breadth of the storms made an immediate assessment of the havoc?s full extent all but impossible.

In Kentucky, the National Guard and state police headed out to search wreckage for an unknown number of missing. In Indiana, authorities searched dark county roads connecting rural communities that officials said ?are completely gone.?

In Henryville, the birthplace of Kentucky Fried Chicken founder Colonel Harland Sanders, volunteers pushed shopping carts full of water and food down littered streets, handing supplies to anyone in need. Hundreds of firefighters and police zipped around town, where few recognizable structures remained; all of Henryville?s schools were destroyed. Wind had blown out the windows of the Henryville Community Presbyterian Church and gutted the building.

?It?s all gone,? said Andy Bell, who was guarding a friend?s demolished service garage, not far from where a school bus stuck out from the side of a restaurant and a parking lot where a small classroom chair jutted from a car window.

?It was beautiful,? he said, looking around at the town of about 2,000 north of Louisville, Ky. ?And now it?s just gone. I mean, gone.?

Susie Renner, 54, said she saw two tornadoes barreling down on Henryville within minutes of each other. The first was brown from being filled with debris; the second was black.

?I?m a storm chaser,? Renner said, ?and I have never been this frightened before.?

Friday?s tornado outbreak came two days after an earlier round of storms killed 13 people in the Midwest and South, and forecasters at the National Weather Service?s Storm Prediction Center had said the day would be one of a handful this year that warranted its highest risk level. By 10 p.m., the weather service had issued 269 tornado warnings. Only 189 warnings were issued in all of February.

?We knew this was coming. We were watching the weather like everyone else,? said Clark County, Ind., Sheriff Danny Rodden. ?This was the worst case scenario. There?s no way you can prepare for something like this.?

Fourteen people were reported killed in Indiana, including four in Chelsea, where a man, woman and their 4-year-old great-grandchild died in one house. Tony Williams, owner of the Chelsea General Store, said the child and mother were huddled in a basement when the storm hit and sucked the 4-year-old out her hands. The mother survived, but her 70-year-old grandparents were upstairs; both died.

?They found them in the field, back behind the house,? Williams said.

Two people died further north in Holton, where it appeared a tornado cut a diagonal swath down the town?s tiny main drag, demolishing a cinderblock gas station but leaving a tiny white church intact down the road.

?We are going to continue to hit every county road that we know of that there are homes on and search those homes,? said Indiana State Police Sgt. Jerry Goodin. ?We have whole communities and whole neighborhoods that are completely gone. We?ve had a terrible, terrible tragedy here.?

The death toll rose to at least 14 in Kentucky, where National Guard troops and Kentucky State Police troopers were dispatched along with a rescue team to counties east and south of Lexington.

In West Liberty, Ky., Stephen Burton heard the twister coming and pulled his 23-year-old daughter to safety, just before the tornado destroyed the second story of the family?s home.

?I held onto her and made it to the center of the house, next to a closet,? Burton said. ?I just held onto her, and I felt like I was getting sand-blasted on my back.?

Endre Samu, public affairs officer for the Kentucky State Police in Morehead, said three people died in West Liberty and at least 75 were injured. With the hospital damaged in the storm, some patients were being transferred to area hospitals, he said.

?All of the downtown area was just devastated,? Samu said.

Tornadoes were reported in at least six Ohio cities and towns, including the village of Moscow, where a council member found dead in her home was one of at least three people killed in the state. Several dozen homes were damaged, some stripped down to their foundations, and the Clermont County commissioners called a state of emergency for the first time in 15 years.

One person was reported dead Saturday in Alabama. Emergency Management Agency spokeswoman Yasamie August said an apparent tornado that hit Jackson Gap injured two others as well. She didn?t have more details.

Emergency officials in Lee County, Va., said damage from a possible tornado left a two- to three-mile path of destruction that may reach far into Tennessee, and damage reports were expected to increase with daylight.

?We don?t know. We can?t get down there,? Emergency Management Director Jason Crabtree said of areas stretching south of the Virginia line. ?This thing may be eight to 10 miles long.?

BlackBerry 9320 leaks out, looks like every other Curve

BlackBerry 9320 leaks out, looks like every other Curve
If you thought RIM's decline would inject a need to give its handsets a major makeover, think again. The folks from BGR have smudged their fingertips all over an India-bound BlackBerry device and, well, it shamelessly resembles just about every member of the Curve family. The purported 9320 is said to come sporting OS 7.1 at its core, along with a 2.44-inch, 320 x 240 qVGA+ display, 512MB of RAM as well as a 3.2-megapixel rear shooter. Allegedly, the BlackBerry is also rocking a BBM button on its left spine, which should come in handy to those who love some Berry-specific instant messaging. Word is the Curve 9320 will be ready to hit the streets next month for around 12,000 Rupees (or around $245). Hopefully by then you haven't spent your cash on one of those shiny new talkers we saw in Barcelona.
