Interview with Danielle Uidam of Frenzy
Frenzy is a race against time board game where each player will move around the city blocks to purchase the items on their shopping list. Their frenzied efforts will be rewarded when they make it home with the items in their trolley.
But it?s not all easy sailing?..you will find many pitfalls and win-falls along the way and you?ll need to use a number of different strategies to win.
No matter what happens you will always have fun and it will leave you and your whole family wanting to play again. Excellent as an educational aid to teaching your students logic, strategy, handling of money, planning and decision making, Frenzy is worth a second look.
We spoke with the Creator, Danielle Uidam about Frenzy which has just been released on to the Australian Market.
1. Danielle, Tell us something about your inspiration for Frenzy?
The idea was born as a family project on a rainy day. We just took out some cardboard and drew up the game. Ideas were tossed around and eventually we decided to have a fast paced shopping game that had strategic thinking.
We enjoyed it so much, and our friends had so much positive feedback about the game, that when I had some free time I decided to get it manufactured professionally. It was a family effort. My mum sourced manufacturers, I designed the graphics, layout and pieces, my dad bank rolled the project and my brother helped with shipping and logistics. But everybody including friends helped shape the final project and the rules.
2. What kind of people will enjoy Frenzy?
Everyone! The game is designed to cater to a wide variety of individuals. Kids will love the playful aspect of the trolleys, adults will enjoy the competitive and strategic aspect, and women will just love that it involves shopping whilst the chance aspect through the Twist of Fate Cards keeps everybody on their toes.
3. How would you characterise the mechanics of Frenzy? Is Frenzy a Board Game, a Card Game a Dice Game?

4. How long did it take you to develop the game? Did you have help from others?
The game was developed over a three year period, a mock up version was played with a large number of friends, and due to its popularity we decided to manufacture the game. We fine tuned the various aspects from numerous play tests with family and friends to make the game even more enjoyable.
?5. What other popular board games would you say most closely resemble Frenzy?
Frenzy is a mix between strategic games such as Scotland Yard and Pan Am, and then family fun games like Monopoly and Sorry.
?6. How is Frenzy Different from other Board games?
Frenzy is a fast paced strategy game that also has numerous educational messages for children through its life like applications ? Do you continue to shop, when you are running low on money, or do you race home? People have to choose various modes of transport, which order they purchase their items and managing a budget. Their are many pitfalls and win-falls along the way.
7. Are there any plans for any new games in the future?
We have a few ideas already on the drawing board.
