Fusion 5 enables user to run Windows on Mac

Virtualisation and cloud infrastructure firm VMware has introduced Fusion 5 with 70 new features that enables user to run Windows and other operating systems within OS X.

The new release is compatible with OS X Mountain Lion,Windows 8 and the new Macs to deliver an enhanced Windows on Mac experience.

Fusion 5 runs Windows on Mountain Lion and search Windows programmes in Launchpad, use "AirPlay Mirroring" to stream Mac,Windows applications on an HDTV and get VMware Fusion notifications in Mountain Lion's notification centre.

VMware's new release supports new Mac technologies that include compatibility with Mountain Lion, retina display optimisation, USB 3 connectivity and improved support for large memory Macs.

It also includes an updated virtual machine library that enables transitions between multiple operating systems, one click snapshots with improved graphical appearance, a new graphics driver for Linux 3D desktops and a new embedded learning center for immediate support.

VMware Fusion 5 will deliver an enhanced performance up to 40% faster than previous versions, improved power management for longer battery life and faster 3D graphics.

In addition, the company is also introducing VMware Fusion 5 Professional with new capabilities to improve the way businesses deliver applications to users on Macs and PCs. The Professional version includes all the features of Fusion 5.

VMware Fusion 5 claims to run maximum compatibility running business applications on Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8 or one of more than 200 other operating systems.

VMware Fusion 5 Professional has feawtures to prevent users from changing virtual machine settings or attaching USB devices to Windows to avoid tampering of corporate image.

The Professional version includes a commercial license of VMware Player 5 to deploy and run restricted virtual machines on Macs, Windows and Linux systems.

It also directs end-users to customised Web resources directly from VMware Fusion 5 Professional's Help menu, reducing support costs.
